Ancast Industries has extensive capabilities for iron casting. Our foundry in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is home to state-of-the-art equipment, various grades of iron, and skilled technicians capable of producing medium volumes of highly complex components. We can cast iron components in several sizes and weights to meet our customers’ needs. Our facility maintains quality certifications and process controls to deliver consistently high-quality components.

Equipment

Ancast Industries operates a range of equipment for iron casting, including the following:

  • One (1) Hunter 24×20, one (1) Hunter 32×30, and two (2) Sinto 20×16 Molding Lines
  • Three (3) six-ton Inductotherm Coreless Induction Furnaces
  • Two (2) L20 Laempe Core Machines and two (2) LL10 Core Machines
  • Two (2) Barinder CNC Grinding Machine
  • One (1) Simpson 75B Muller and one (1) Simpson 85B Muller

This range of equipment categorizes Ancast Industries as a horizontally parted, green sand iron foundry. Our equipment line also defines the types of parts we make and the markets we serve, which are complex geometry, medium production volumes.

Types of Iron

Ancast Industries works with a broad range of iron grades to create components of varying mechanical properties. We have a dedicated iron lab to ensure the parts we deliver meet our clients’ required specifications.

Our engineering team can discuss with clients the different grades of iron, weighing their strengths, weaknesses, and common applications to help them determine the ideal iron grade for their components.


Grey Iron

Flake Graphite provides grey iron with unique properties (such as excellent machinability) Grey iron has been produced in various forms for thousands of years, making it the most recognized type of cast iron. Grey irons can be alloyed to increase strength and hardness while cast, or to increase their response to heat treatment. The mechanical properties of grey iron are determined by the combined effect of its chemical composition, processing technique in the foundry, and the solidification and cooling rates.

Ancast Industries’ molding machines allow us to create various sizes and weights of iron. We can produce parts with the following dimensions and weights using our equipment:

Moulding

  • 20″ x 16″ mould size


  • 24″ x 20″ mould size

  • Casting weights from 0.5lb to 35 lbs

  • Up to 60 moulds per hour with automated mould handling


  • Up to 38 moulds per hour with automated mould handling


  • Up to 30 moulds per hour with automated mould handling


Volume and Capacity

Ancast Industries’ capacity allows us to fulfill up to medium-volume orders. Our equipment can produce the following volumes of iron components:

  • Sinto 20×16 molding line: between 1,000 and 50,000 pieces per year
  • Hunter 24×20 molding line: between 1,000 and 25,000 pieces per year
  • Hunter 32×30 molding line: between 1,000 and 12,000 pieces per year

Process Control

At Ancast Industries, our process control ensures our clients get a high-quality product that meets their specifications, every time. In addition to ISO 9001:2015 certification, our process control is guided by the following capabilities and qualifications:

  • We have an in-house automatic sand control system.
  • Every batch of sand is tested by an auto sand lab.
  • We conduct carbon equivalent testing for base furnace chemistry.
  • We have a spectrometer to measure the final alloy chemistry and digitally retain the results of the chemistry analysis.
  • We perform computerized microstructure and optical microscope analyses.
  • We perform mechanical testing to assess material strength.

These systems use statistical analysis and quantifiable data to guarantee the best results for our customers.

Iron Casting Services From Ancast Industries

Casting can produce components as a single piece, regardless of the level of complexity. As a result, the cast parts are strong and easy to assemble into the final product. Compared to machining, casting delivers high dimensional accuracy at a lower cost per part. It can also create complex internal geometries and features not possible with machining.
